Abstract
The study examines how exposure to artwork can positively impact an individual’s psychological wellbeing. Fifty individuals who reported depressive symptoms were assigned to two groups, experimental and control groups. The participants in experimental group were made to view artwork of their choice repeatedly five times within a month at least one time a week. The control group were merely presented with plane objects same time within same period. After this exercise, we administered questionnaires that assessed level of depressive symptoms in both groups. Results indicates a significant improvement in the control of depressive symptoms with participants in the experimental group who were exposed to artwork. We discussed how artwork can be therapeutic and used as part of intervention with patients with depressive symptoms by psychologists or therapists.
