Abstract
The Deplastification project (2021–) integrates interdisciplinary research and creative practices to address marine plastic pollution through participatory engagement and environmental empathy. By organizing beach cleanups in Gran Canaria, Ilhabella, and Poland, and creating site-specific installations and interactive objects like the YOU and SOS lamps, the project mobilizes communities to confront the impact of plastic on marine environments. The film Deplastification (2023) documents these efforts, highlighting collaborative actions and transforming waste into art. Plastsupper, developed with Michalina Kostecka at the Industra Art Gallery, engages participants in a multisensory, participatory dining experience, challenging perceptions of plastic as artificial versus organic. This project sparks critical dialogue on the pervasive role of plastic in ecosystems. Both projects exemplify the interdisciplinary and practice-focused nature of creative research, emphasizing social impact through artistic engagement with environmental issues. They are also part of my broader research, featured in SDGzine#05: Goal 13/Climate, which explores the intersection of art, design, and environmental activism in response to the global plastic crisis.
