Abstract
Paper 1: Posting can help - visual media activism and gender violence in Melbourne’s Bangladeshi community (Rajoanna Mowly): this study explores digital media as a space for discussion of gender violence, by second and third generation women from the diaspora Bangladeshi community in Melbourne. The study applies uses and gratification theory to investigate how members of the Bangladeshi community in Melbourne used social media aesthetics as a forum for communication of gender violence. Paper 2: Generation Z expectations and experiences - interaction, browsing, and Saudi digital newspaper design (Eman Alkhomees) This study looks at the user experience of two Saudi digital newspapers to compare the reactions and responses of Gen Z Saudi readers to navigation and interaction tasks on two newspaper websites, investigating whether online newspapers with traditional print backgrounds are limited by classic layouts (which may hinder users from browsing content efficiently), and the extent to which these Saudi newspapers offer sufficient tools for Gen Z readers to actively engage in the news process. Paper 3: Ethical digital communication design among Saudi banks during the coronavirus pandemic (Abdulmajeed Alomayri) This study aims to elicit various insights on how banking industry professionals practiced ethical communication design during a defined crisis (the coronavirus pandemic of 2020). Digital communication practitioners from two major banks in Riyadh were interviewed about ethical design, and the visual communication design principles they relied on during the pandemic.
