Assessment of the Alignment of the FOGAPRYD Project with Human Rights Principles and its Impact on the Prevention of Child Malnutrition in Ecuador

Abstract

This paper evaluates the alignment of the FOGAPRYD Project with human rights and its impact on the prevention of child malnutrition in Ecuador. Using a mixed-methods approach, a case study design was adopted to deeply analyze the project’s objectives, implementation, and outcomes. Information was gathered through interviews, focus groups, and document analysis, providing a detailed and contextualized understanding. The main objective was to assess how the FOGAPRYD Project aligns with human rights, particularly regarding the sustainability, accessibility, and equity of sanitation and drinking water services. The results indicate that the project has significantly improved access to these services in the most vulnerable communities, reducing the prevalence of chronic malnutrition and improving child health. Strengths were identified in the quality and safety of the implemented infrastructure, as well as in community participation and training. However, areas for improvement were also noted, such as the need to strengthen accountability, transparency, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. In conclusion, the FOGAPRYD Project has had a significant positive impact, but its long-term sustainability requires continuous commitment and improvements in the management and evaluation of interventions to ensure their effectiveness and durability.
