Doina M PetrescuProf. Doina Petrescu is Chair of Architecture and Design Activism at the University of Sheffield. She was also the 2023 Brussels Studies Institute- CityDev Chair, the 2022 Jubilee Professor at Chalmers University Gothenburg and Guest Professor at Harvard GSD (2014-15). Doina is co-founder with Constantin Petcou of Atelier d’Architecture Autogérée (urbantactics.org), a Paris-based collective platform which conducts actions and research on participatory urbanism and architecture, involving local residents in creating and sustaining commons in their neighbourhood, in engaging in social and ecological practices and initiating resilient networks. Their R-Urban strategy and project (r-urban.net), which consists in setting-up commons-based resilience networks has been implemented in France, UK and Romania and has received numerous awards including New European Bauhaus (2022), Building4Humanity Resilient Design Competition (2018), Innovation in Politics Award for Ecology (2017), Zumtobel Award (2012), Curry Stone Prize (2011) and the European Public Space Prize (2010). Doina’s research concerns issues of urban resilience in relation with urban commons, co-production, feminism, and politics of space. Her recent publications include LiveAct (2023), Urban Commons Handbook (2022) Architecture and Resilience (2018), Learn to Act (2018) The Social (re)Production of Architecture (2017), R-Urban Act: A Participative Strategy of Urban Resilience (2015).
