Redefining Bowel Disease: Why Everything We Know About Crohn's and Colitis Is Wrong

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease has long since been understood to be autoimmune, genetic and idiopathic in nature. But with a 3000% increase in cases since the 1950’s, we’re challenging this paradigm. A fresh look at new research shows us that Crohn’s and colitis have genetic abnormalities and family history approximately 24 to 28% of the time; there are active antibodies 50 to 70% of the time, and research is showing these may not be auto-antibodies. With the understanding of the concept of generational dysbiosis, environmental toxicity and other biological insults, we’re beginning to get a much clearer picture as to what is causing inflammatory bowel disease, as well as what we can do about it.
